WHAT IS FAMILY DISPUTE RESOLUTION?

Family Dispute Resolution is a process which helps parties to:

  • Identify issues
  • Develop options
  • Consider alternatives
  • Endeavour to reach agreement

The Family Dispute Resolution Service is available to separated families and significant others seeking assistance with planning future arrangements for children.

WHAT IS A FAMILY DISPUTE PRACTITIONER?

A Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner helps people affected by separation or divorce to resolve some or all of their disputes with each other in relation to children. The Practitioner is independent of all parties involved in the process.

WHAT DOES A FAMILY DISPUTE RESOLUTION PRACTITIONER DO?

Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners facilitate child focussed discussions about the best interest of children based on their individual and developmental needs.

This may include:-

  • How your children can spend time with both parents and significant family members and friends
  • Continuing positive parenting relationships following separation
  • Your child's responses to your separation and their emotional and developmental needs
  • Ongoing communication with your former partner and strategies for resolving any future disputes

Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners encourage individuals to obtain independent legal advice. Please note that Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners do not provide legal advice.
