Personal Support Program

What is the Personal Support Program (PSP)?

It is a 2 year program for people facing difficult circumstances such as:

  • Homelessness
  • Drug/alcohol problems
  • Psychological problems or mental illness
  • Physical disability
  • Depression /anxiety
  • Anger management issues
  • Domestic violence
  • Gambling problems
  • Financial management problems
  • Social isolation
  • Long term unemployment

What can people on PSP expect?

  • Counselling and personal support
  • Advocacy and referral to specialist services in local community
  • Practical support- finding a GP, researching study options etc
  • Mentoring support- working with clients to help set goals, monitor progress and celebrate successes

Who is eligible for PSP?

People who are registered with Centrelink and who are not working

How do people get into PSP?

Everyone who comes into PSP has been referred by Centrelink. Centrelink identifies potential PSP participants and then meets with each person to assess what their needs are. This assessment is generally done with a Centrelink psychologist.

If you think that PSP may be suitable for yourself or someone you know contact Centrelink and let them know you would like to be referred to PSP.
